Trump Slashes White House Budget, Saves Taxpayers $22 million.

It seems whenever you see Donald Trump’s name mentioned in the media, it’s probably because he has offended someone in a tweet or he has claimed he is in the process of putting in place  a law which already exists.

Today, Trump supporters can cheer because for once he is in the news for good reasons.

During the presidential campaign Trump ran by saying that the federal government spends too much money. Trump has taken leadership and cut  spending in the White House.

The savings come from a cut in the amount spent on Michelle Obama’s budget as First Lady, an end to the large number of “czars” and fellowships that Obama employed, and a smaller White House workforce reports Forbes.

The White House released its annual budget last week, and  Adam Andrzejewski, president of government watchdog group OpenTheBooks.com, compared the new budget to that of the Obama’s last two years in power.

Andrzejewski reports that there are 110 fewer white house staff since Obama left office, which saves $5 million alone. Also the first lady’s staff has been cut down from 24 staffers to five. Michele Obama entered the white house with 22 staff which cost $2 million annually up from the $1.4 million spent by the Bush administration.

Michelle Obama was criticized for her large staff but it was only marginally higher than  Laura Bush’s staff of eighteen. Also, Melania Trump has not been very active as First Lady compared to Michelle Obama during her time in the role, it would be surprising if she were to employ the same amount of staff .

However, Trump’s budget is significantly less than that of Obama administration, we must still stay weary of fake news. A number of right-wing media outlets are claiming Trump not accepting his salary as President is saving taxpayers money. This is wrong, Article II of the United States Constitution mandates a presidential salary.

Although in  the first quarter, President Trump donated his pay to the Dept. of Interior for construction and repair needs at military cemeteries.
