Quentin Tarantino and Star Trek are two things that just seem to not belong together in the same sentence, like Harvey Weinstein and women rights. Nevertheless Tarantino is going to bring his trademark brand of cinema to the sci-fi franchise. So we can expect blood, guts and swearing in the majesty of space; Tarantino has just given Mark L. Smith the job of knocking out the screenplay for this new film.
If the name is not familiar with you and you didn’t read the tittle of this article properly, Smith adapted Michael Punke’s novel for Alejandro G. Iñárritu‘s astonishing 2015 film The Revenant (The film was astonishing but Dicaprio’s grunting gets a 7).
Aside from The Revenant, Smith has a Grindhouse background as he was behind the stalk-and-slash Vacancy films and the US remake of Martyrs. So his expertise should ensure Tarantino get his “adult” rendition of the franchise which will be R-rated.
Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) and Lindsey Beer (Chaos Walking) were also linked to the role.
Work on the script will begin whilst Tarantino finishes up work on his yet untitled Charles Manson-era American crime drama. There is no doubt Tarantino will have a hand in the final script (we can’t wait to see how he incorporates the N word in space). Whether or not he will be in the directors chair, we will only in the future.
