One of the most overused words last year was ‘snowflake’, the word was adopted by the right as a disparaging term to describe liberals who in their eyes were ’emotional’. However, what is surprising is that it is the right who are the real snowflakes, as this article wills show.
Unless you have been lying under a rock, you should know that one of this years most anticipated movies Black Panther is coming out on 12th February. The film has already broken many records already, being one of the first films which contains a primary black cast.
Facebook has disabled a page connected to an alt-right group that had called for viewers to give the upcoming and much-anticipated Black Panther film a low rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The group calls itself “Down with Disney’s Treatment of Franchises and Its Fanboys”, and it consist of people who think there is a hidden power in Hollywood which is pushing an agenda by putting black and female actors in leading roles. According to proponents of this theory, Hollywood is pandering to the people in this sensitive society that we now live in. As if black actors finally getting roles they deserve is some unnatural event that must be stopped.
The groups moderator described himself as “alt-right” and he had attracted support from over 4,000 accounts. As of Saturday the page has since been inaccessible. This is not the first time the group has tried something like this, last year they tried to sabotage the Rotten Tomato score of The Last Jedi. The moderator took issue with Star Wars producers introducing more female characters, saying one of the main male characters was “in danger of being turned gay”.
The film’s director, Ryan Coogler, told the Huffington Post that he is looking forward to everyone seeing the film.
“For me, I’m looking forward to sharing the film with audiences regardless of what their political views are … that’s kind of where I [stand on that].”
In a statement, a spokesperson for Rotten Tomatoes said: “While we respect our fans’ diverse opinions, we do not condone hate speech.”
Black Panther has already broken the records by outselling every superhero movie in advance ticket sales. The film will star: Chadwick Boseman, Michael B Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Daniel Kaluuya, Sterling K Brown, Forest Whitaker and Angela Bassett are among the film’s stars.
If you want to see a positive reaction for this film, you won’t find one better than these kids who start dancing when they find out their school is taking them to see the film.
