François-Paul Journe, whilst working in his uncle’s watch restoration shop, he wanted a tourbillon movement for himself, and as we all know tourbillon watches are expensive.
When he saw he couldn’t afford to buy one for himself, he went for the next logical thing which was to build one of his own. Eventually started F.P. Journe, his first production watch was a tourbillon, the now revered Tourbillon Souverain.
Journe now has a new version of his sought after watch called the Tourbillon Souverain Régence Circulaire. And it is one of the most beautiful watches on the market right now.
The watch alludes to the 18th century, Journe has said he considers the time period as the greatest era of watchmaking. He pays tribute with the dial which features hand-engraved motifs inspired by the 18th century.
The result as you can see is a beautiful pattern that compliments the white gold dial. It takes each artist about two days to finish a single dial, during which the dial is sent to a skilled artist in Geneva.
The hand-wound movement is visible through a sapphire caseback and this is just as gorgeous as the dial but it’s more intricate.
Aside from the tourbillon, the Souverain Régence Circulaire has a an interesting mechanism called the Remontoire or constant force mechanism, which ensures constant power delivery to the escapement.
The F.P. Journe Tourbillon Souverain Régence Circulaire watch is priced at 171,000 CHF and is a limited edition of just 20 pieces. If you want one of the most beautiful watches around, you better move fast.
