The Nicknames Of Iconic Rolex Watches.
If you are reading this you may have ordered you first Rolex and are now part of the community, you maybe just a Rolex fan or you are here to see if we got any names wrong.
Whenever a new Rolex is released, watch enthusiasts do not just purchase, they also give the new piece a nickname, so when you are in a forum and you hear people talking about the Hulk. Don’t worry, you haven’t stumbled across an Avengers page. The following is a list of Rolex watches that have been given affectionate nicknames by the watch community.
Batman is nickname of the Rolex GMT-Master II Ref. 116710BLNR. No wonder the Rolex community gave this a nickname, this later GMT-Master series. The Batman gets its name from the two-tone Cerachrome material with two distinctive hues.
In similar fashion to the Batman, the Rolex GMT-Master Ref. 6542 is nicknamed Pepsi due to the color combination of its bezel, which resembles the iconic drinks manufacturer. This watch is a relic, it was first introduced to market in 1954 and entered the market as the original of the GMT-Master line of products. Although, the Master line is no longer in production, the GMT-Master IIs have the same bezel color and are still referred to as the Pepsi.
Now onto one of my favourites, on its 50th anniversary Rolex introduced the Submariner Ref. 16610LV. This Submariner come with exceptional features including the rotating bezel, the green perfectly contrast the black dial. The ‘LV’ is an acronym for Lunette Verte (Green Glass).
Whereas the Daytona has become synonymous with Paul Newman, James Cameron perhaps the second man to have a Rolex named after him. Presented to him after he dove to the earth’s deepest point back in 2012. This watch released as the Rolex Deepsea Sea-Dweller D-Blue Ref. 116660. The piece features a stunning dial with a colour gradient from blue to black, and it comes with the inscription “DEEPSEA”.
Following the success of the Avengers franchise, Rolex knew they had to commemorate earth’s mightiest heroes. I joke of course but the Rolex Submariner Ref. 116610LV was released following the success of Kermit. And it shows in the similarities including the Cerachrom bezel that is green in color, but this time paired with dial which is Rolex green. This piece was made so diver could comfortably wear it over their diving suit, so it comes with a Glidelock system to achieve this.
